For many individuals with benign lesions (also known as pigmented lesions), the easy solution is to cover it up with makeup. Some benign lesions, however, are too dark to be easily covered, so it becomes too tedious to try and conceal them day after day. That doesn’t mean you simply have to live with these marks, however, which is why we encourage you to consider Fotona’s StarWalker and QX MAX laser systems.
If you are interested in removing benign lesions, including lesions that appear on the face, feel free to get in touch with our team at RNA Medical Aesthetics to learn more about Fotona. Visit our practice in Johnson City, TN to learn more, or contact us today to schedule your consultation!
What are Benign Lesions?
You may have something scary in mind when you hear the phrase “benign lesions,” but these spots of pigment could be something as simple as freckles. Pigmented lesions include virtually any spot of discoloration on the skin that is noncancerous.
The development of these lesions could be due to a number of factors including genetics and environment. Some individuals are simply predisposed to have freckles, or other spots of pigmentation, while others are not. Some people may spend more time in the sun, causing them to develop discoloration.
Other type of benign lesion is melasma. This can also be caused by excess sun exposure, but some women experience it during pregnancy as a result of fluctuating hormone levels. Even if you take every precaution while outdoors to protect your skin from the sun, there are other reasons outside of anyone’s control that you may develop benign lesions.
What is Fotona?
Regardless of why the pigmented lesions appeared on your skin, Fotona’s lasers can quickly and efficiently treat them. Lasers such as StarWalker and QX MAX use Q-Switched technology to avoid damaging skin tissue. Lesions that can be treated include:
- Moles
- Keratoses
- Vascular Lesions
- Freckles
- Melasma
- And more!
The short bursts of light energy from the laser are absorbed by the spots of discoloration, which causes them to gradually fade or peel off. After your treatment, the amount of downtime that you require depends on the type of lesion and how many you had treated.
